WINEMAKER NOTES: Our inspiration for Iron Gate was a famous 100-point Bordeaux wine that Bettina gave to us over a decade ago. While visiting Bordeaux, CC and I made a joke of getting our photo in front of the imposing gates of this great French Chateau knowing they are not open to the public and their wine is sold mostly to collectors. The idea struck us to make our own premium Bordeaux blend that we could welcome our guests to enjoy at an accessible price. With 2018 heralded as a perfect growing season in eastern Washington, we had some stellar fruit to work with for this vintage. To create this blend, we sourced from some of the best growers and regions in Washington state, including sites in Red Mountain and Yakima Valley. Aged in 50% new French oak to frame its age-worthy tannins, the resulting wine is dark, aromatic, and richly textured.
