Sur la Riviere
Vibrant and supple, our Rhone-inspired blend of Grenache and Syrah has notes of ruby red grapefruit, candied raspberry, and toasted marshmallow.
YEAR: 2016
BLEND: 50% Grenache, 50% Syrah
SOURCE:
Grenache – Six Prong Vineyard, Horse Heaven Hills AVA, WA
Syrah – Pace Vineyard, Yakima Valley AVA, WA
ABV: 14.5%
WINEMAKER NOTES: The 2016 vintage began remarkably hot in the spring but cooled off by summer. This extended hang time allowed for both gradual and even ripening perfect weather for developing ripe
flavors and expressive aromatics. Inspired by the great wines of the Rhone Valley, this traditional blend of Grenache and Syrah is a perfect marriage between these two beautiful varietals. This wine is an ode to the Rhone and a tribute to Maine folklore and the old river shanty “Youpe, Youpe, Sur la Riviere!” sung by loggers from Quebec who traveled through Maine via raft or canoe.

REVIEWS:
The name for this award-winning blend of Grenache (50%) and Syrah (50%) has roots that stem from a folk song sung by loggers paddling from Quebec to Maine.
These grapes made their way by truck from Washington’s Columbia Valley to Maine, and since they come from a state beyond a shared border, the appellation on the label must read “American.”
Walla Walla-trained winemaker Aaron Peet provides a smooth ride that brings a boatload of dark berries, baking spice and cocoa with an undercurrent of earthiness, cherry tobacco, and violets.

Rhone rules with this stellar example of earthy, dusty red fruit, mild oak and a noticeable acidity and savory finish. – Michael Cervin
A tasty 50/50 blend of Syrah and Grenache that shows a mix of black and red fruit, lively oak spice, pepper, and tobacco leaf, all of which are well integrated from front to back, and finish on the bright side with a kiss of lemon zest. […]
