WINEMAKER NOTES: The 2016 vintage began remarkably hot in the spring but cooled off by summer. This extended hang time allowed for both gradual and even ripening—perfect weather for developing ripe flavors and expressive aromatics. Although our Prince Valiant is typically a Meritage blend, with this vintage we decided to try a new direction following an old path. In the 19th century, it was a common practice for Bordeaux wineries to add some northern Rhone Syrah into their blends to improve color and depth. As an experiment, we gave this a try with incredible results.
