Think You Can't Wine in Maine? Think Again
an article by Kathy England
Edge Staff Writer
Wine is a staple in times of celebration, to honor good friends or just to accentuate a fine meal. It's a beverage that is a celebrated part of nearly every culture and has made some countries famous. And as Americans are stepping into the spotlight as great vintners, Maine has joined this burgeoning field: 18 wineries and vineyards have cropped up in our own state, adding a diverse local flavor that every Mainer should try. 07.20.09 | Posted by |
Lincolnville Winery offers tastings and instructions at two midcoast sites.
By BJ BANGS, Special to the Maine Sunday Telegram
A visit to the Cellardoor Winery & Vineyard offers an additional dimension to a vacation in midcoast Maine.
Cellardoor, about 5 miles from Camden Harbor, offers wine tasting, cooking and wine-making classes. The relaxing atmosphere that has the feel of Europe and California wine country with views of the vineyards in the distance takes in a bit of Maine history in the renovated post and beam barn. Depending upon the timing of the visit, you will also be greeted by weekly entertainment, outside hiking possibilities and a gift shop full of wines made at Cellardoor and offerings of local chefs. 06.30.09 | Posted by |

Cellardoor makes the
Billy Strean Ph.D. writes about Cellardoor in his new book "The HoHo Dojo - Lighten Up and Love Life Laughing"
"I had three experiences around Camden, Maine that I'll use to lead me to sharing with you the idea of 'two smile service.'
We were nearing the end of a spectacular trip around Maine in July, 2007. Paula, Andrew, and I were returning from a very pleasant outing at Barrett's Cove when we spotted a sign for Cellardoor Vineyards. As we pulled into the dirt parking lot behind a lovely wooden building, above rows of grapes, I had my first inkling this was a special place. We were greeted upon entry and one of our hosts suggested that Andrew might like playing in the loft and then offered him a tractor ride so that Paula and I might enjoy a wine tasting. The place was friendly, welcoming and the feeling of the space had warmth and character. The people were of service, intriguing, meeting our needs (without them being expressed) and exceeding any expectations we might have had entering their place of business. As I sipped my second Riesling, I looked out the window and saw Andrew simply beaming as he was being pulled around in the tractor.
After we finished our winetasting and purchased a couple of bottles and some blueberry lime ginger jam, we took a couple of parting photographs. As we pulled onto the edge of the driveway and I looked up on the hill across the country highway, I saw Bettina and John,...who owned the vineyard and had provided us with this little piece of magic. I put the car into park and ran up the hill, compelled to tell our hosts of how much I appreciated what they created. It was precisely what customer service can be. Both the providers and the customers were filled with a deep satisfaction, a sense of connection, and feeling a little bigger than before their 'business' was transacted."

Up to Camp
Cellardoor Vineyard’s inaugural Wine Camp attracted ten happy campers to Lincolnville in June.
The “Wine Camp for Adults” offered participants the opportunity to live the life of a vintner as they learned all aspects of wine making from grape to glass. The four-day camp provided campers with hands-on activities in the vineyard, the wine cellar, and the kitchen. There was some time for sight-seeing, too, as campers enjoyed a sail aboard a schooner, trips to the Farnsworth and Owls Head Transportation museums, and private dinners prepared by local chefs at Cellardoor Vineyard and local restaurants. The next camp wine camp is scheduled for August 24 – 28. 06.19.08 | Posted by John Tynan |
Fathers Get Special Treatment at the Vineyard
Fathers got the red carpet treatment at the vineyard this weekend to honor Father's day. Samerset golf pro Kevin Boggs was on hand to give dads a few pointers on their golf swing. Bratwurst and sauerkraut from Morse's was served to all in attendance. Wine tastings and tours were offered to round out the fun!
Meanwhile, in town, the Villa was having it's own Grand Opening Celebration. Click here to get the details.

Spring Fling Success
Over 800 people came out to Cellardoor Vineyard on May 10th for our season-opening "Spring Fling Festival!"
Maine's Oldest Vineyard started its 10th anniversary season in grand style with a celebration of Spring and family fun.
Guests enjoyed a fun-filled day of activities highlighted by 50' high Ferris Wheel, dunk tank (Bettina splashed down several times), and a stunt show by a the Red Barron Tri-plane. Heirloom seed and bulb giveaways, gardening talks, face painting and caterpillar crawl for the kids rounded out the fun. There was food, too! Now that Spring is here, we're turning our attention to our 2nd Annual Romp & Stomp festival. Check back for details. Hope to see you soon at Maine's Oldest Vineyard. Cellardoor Vineyard Graces Jewel Cover
Camden, March 13, 2008 – OK, we know we think of the Vineyard as a “little jewel” of a place, but we never imagined we’d actually be on the cover of The Jewel!
Well, we are. The Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber (http://www.visitcamden.com/) chose a photo from our 2007 Harvest Festival for the cover of its 2008 area guide. The winning photograph was captured and submitted by local photographer Kristen Robinson http://www.liv-kristin-robinson.com/. Her image of a hot air balloon (primary and reflected in our pond) preparing to take flight captures the color, magic and excitement of a special day here at the Vineyard last fall. Copies of the Jewel are available here at the Vineyard and across the area. You can also download a PDF version from http://www.liv-kristin-robinson.com/. We hope to have Kristin here at the Vineyard autographing posters of her winning photograph later this summer. Watch our Events link for updates. 03.13.08 | Posted by John Tynan |
