Pop The Cause 2014

To our wonderful community,

Back in 2008, when we hosted the first Pop the Cork, we couldn’t have imagined what an amazing success our annual springtime fundraising party would become. We are so grateful for your incredible enthusiasm over the past five years.

The festivities have grown tremendously, and it has been a thrilling ride. However, we are concerned that something has been lost along the way. The guiding purpose for the party is in danger of being overshadowed by the event itself.

We believe it is time to refocus on the spirit of community giving. Thus, at the heart of the 2014 event will be the contribution of $160,000 to four local nonprofits. Three will receive $20,000 each, while the fourth will receive $100,000.

Our community has many deserving organizations that would benefit from these funds making the selection process extremely difficult. We’re excited to announce that our recipients will be United Mid-Coast Charities, MCH Meals on Wheels, Coastal Opportunities and Hospitality House.

In keeping with a stronger emphasis on the reason for the party, we are making a few changes to the event itself. After much thought and reflection, we will be scaling back to 400 guests, the size of the original event. There will of course be lots of great food and wine, as well as terrific entertainment by The Sultans and The Pointer Sisters, and it will be a night to remember. The Town of Rockport has graciously offered to host the event at the Harbor in 2014.

To underscore further what the event is all about, we are also modifying its name. Please join us for Pop the Cause 2014, on Thursday evening, June 26, 2014. Tickets ($125 per person) will be available beginning November 1st at BrownPaperTickets.com.

We are very much looking forward to partnering with you as Pop the Cork becomes Pop the Cause. Many thanks.

Your neighbors,

Bettina Doulton and Lani Stiles

Pop For Change

Saturday
June

5:00 PM

Dear Friends,

PopForChange2014In conjunction with Megunticook Market and our annual Pop The Cork event (renamed Pop The Cause in 2014 to reflect a bigger focus on giving back to the community), we invite you, our community, to come out and make a difference. In support of the four beneficiaries, UMCC (United Mid-Coast Charities), MCH Meals on Wheels, Hospitality House, and Coastal Opportunities, we are coordinating volunteer work for the first half of 2014. We’ll also be donating $160,000 among these four organizations and we need your vote to help us divide it up.

If you’ve been looking for a meaningful resolution for 2014, this is a wonderful way to kick off a new year and make a difference in your community. And for those of us who have wanted to volunteer but struggled to figure out how, this is a perfect chance to give it a try. These 4-hour volunteer shifts will become available this spring, and we will help you find a convenient time and a fulfilling task to contribute. For those that have completed 4 hours of volunteer work for any one of these organizations, we will celebrate your efforts with a “Pop For Change” party on Saturday June 28, 2014 at Rockport Harbor.  Join us as we dine and dance into the evening with special live music by DJ Marc Thrasher and Belinda Carlisle. Tickets to this special event cannot be bought, but rather earned.

But there’s more to this effort than a glass of wine and a plate of appetizers. Change can be as simple as a smile and thank you from someone in need to an entire organization boosted with local support. Pop For Change is about getting together to make a ripple of change in our very own community.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

- Margaret Mead, Cultural Anthropologist

So how do you get started and become involved with this dynamic volunteer project? Check out PopForChange.com to sign up, cast your vote and get started on the road to volunteering. We look forward to this opportunity to engage in this wonderful spirit of giving back in our own community and hope that you will too!

Please note: we’re working to make the opportunity to vote and volunteer as streamlined as possible. If you have any questions about casting your vote or signing up for a volunteer shift, please contact Devon Salisbury at devon@mainewine.com.

As a group we can make a real difference.

Humbly,
Bettina + The Cellardoor Team

About The Organizations:

United Mid-Coast Charities

United Mid-Coast Charities

United Mid-Coast Charities (UMCC) is a Camden-based organization dedicated to spreading the love — literally. With over 50 charities under their wing spanning Knox and Waldo counties, UMCC dedicates themselves to the support of charities which provide social services and care to the most deserving, including medical, physical, social, psychiatric or community educational services. With a far reach, it’s important to take note that UMCC donates 100% of funds to their charities and strives to locate charities that offer the most possible benefit to residents in and around Mid-Coast Maine.

Involvement in community activities, an important feature of the Coastal Opportunities program, provides chances for working on vocational and social skills and expanding interests and abilities. MCH Meals on WheelsMCH Meals on Wheels

MCH — Making Community Happen — provides housing, transportation, nutrition and support programs which form a valuable safety net for some of Maine’s most vulnerable residents, giving the services they need to live healthy, independent lives. MCH’s Meals on Wheels division delivers hot, nutritious meals to the doorstep of older adults and disabled individuals enabling them to remain independent in their own homes. In addition to door-to-door meal services, MCH also operates two community lunch sites open to all seniors in Knox County, creating a place for seniors to gather together for lunch with friends and neighbors. For more information on MCH Meals on Wheels, please visit their website: Mchinc.org/meals.html

Hospitality House Hospitality House

Hospitality House, the area’s only homeless shelter, closed unexpectedly last November. Its parent organization, the Knox County Homeless Coalition, is making major efforts to re-open its doors, offer 24-hour access, and help people find stable housing. Additional services, provided through collaborating partners, may include education or training, food security, and medical and mental health resources.

Cellardoor Winery and Megunticook Market would like to acknowledge and thank these supporters for their generous donations of time, creativity and assistance in this community-wide effort.
